Hey everyone Ben Hardy here and in today’s be comparing the new Ram HD to the Ford Superduty and finally, to the Silverado HD to see which truck is best before we get in this video. I want to give a hu shout out and thank you to the Lurch Miller, Ford and Provo, the Chevy Provo and the Ram and Provo for giving me some time with all three of these trucks link to all their websites. In the description down below link to my car buying guide as well, let’s get into it [ Music, ] powering this Ford is the high output Power Stroke, that is a 6.7 L turbo diesel V8. That goes through a 10-speed automatic.
It puts out 500 horsepower and then 1,200 lb feet of torque. Now powering this Ram is the 6.7 L Cumins inline 6. It now goes through an 8-speed automatic transmission. It’S also high output, powertrain puts out 430 horsepower and then 1,75 lbft of torque and then finally, you’ve got the Duramax 6.
L turbo diesel V8. That goes through a 10-speed like the Ford. It produces 470 horsepower and then 975 lbft of torque. Before we move forward with this comparison, I do want to mention, if you want to see more videos just like this, then I recommend you subscribe, because I post content every single day now. These three trucks that I picked out all have the cool blacked out packages on them.
So you can see with the Ford. The grill is all blacked out notice, the size of the headlights. Definitely the biggest headlights out of the bunch with that giant C-shape. Also, the biggest air dam as well, but you got recovery points, you’ve got fog lights and you have the same setup with the Ram in terms of features. You’Ve got recovery, points, you’ve got fog lights and you’ve got this new split light design, which is very intriguing, and then the Silverado has a pretty big cluster as well with the lighting.
That’S for sure, uh have recovery points, fog lights, just like the other two red recovery points, though, with the Silverado smallest air dam on the Silverado by the way, but there’s the front ends of the three. Now the Ford has a solid rear axle and these 20-in wheels and guess what the Ram also has 20-in wheels and a solid front axle. The Chevy, on the other hand, has independent front suspension, but, like the other two, it does have 20-in wheels. So here’s a side profile with the Ford – i think those wheels actually look pretty nice with the overall integration. We also have power running boards with the Ford.We also have a bedside step there in the back and then finally, we’ve got a solid rear axle and leaf springs here in the rear. Now the Ram is sandwiched in between the other two. So it’s going to be kind of hard to give you guys a big side profile, but you notice with the Ram it has fender flares, whereas the Ford does not uh. The Ram also has this little bumper step there in the back uh, but solid rear axle with leaf springs, and then we have power running boards. With the Ram now finishing things up with the Silverado, you guys can see.
We’Ve got the bedside setup just like the Ford uh no running boards on this one, but you can get the Silverados with running boards if you want and then leaf springs here in the back solid rear axle, just like the other two now when it comes to Bed effects the Silverado has LED lighting. We’Ve got an outlet here in the bed. Fifth wheel, prep from the factory got the plugins and everything for it, and we’ve got bedlininer from the factory as well, and then the tailgate is uh power up with the function. So all you got to do is just and it’ll pop right up. The Ram has pretty much all the same features as the Silverado, so you’ve got the LED lights.
You’Ve got the outlet. You’Ve got the plugins for the fifth wheel, prep. All of that already set up the tailgate’s manual, though, and then finally, the Ford doesn’t have bedlininer, but it has all the other features. So you’ve got the fifth wheel: prep you’ve got the plug-in setup uh. This one actually doesn’t have any outlets in the bed.
So I guess it’s also missing that, but like the Silverado boom got to reach under enough, it is power, but it’s pretty slow. So with the Chevy, we’ve got about 20,000 lb of towing capacity with the Ram we’ve got about 24,000 lb of towing capacity and then, finally, with a Ford, we’ve got about 24,000 lb of towing capacity inside the cab of the Chevy got plenty of space here in The back we’ve got some cup holders, heated seats, USB ports, and this is built off of an LTZ. So it’s a little bit of an unfair comparison, but the High Country, basically just adds slightly nicer trim, doesn’t really add any more features in the LTZ. And then you can see the wood trim there on the door panel. So that’s good headroom!
Also good. Now this Ram’s got the Mega Cab, so pretty darn spacious. Here in the back, you can recline the seats and all of that little storage pocket nice wood trim. Here this is a Limited by the way heated seats in the back usb ports outlet as well got fancy trim here on the seats themselves and then really fancy trim on the door panel and then good headroom, just like the Chevy. And finally, we are in the back of the Ford, so good leg room, just like the other two storage pocket heated seats, just like the other two vents, all of that and then the Platinum.I think these seats are the most comfortable out of the bunch. The Rams look a little bit nicer, but these are a little bit plusher and then the door panels, nice with all the trim and then good headroom gross vehicle weight rating on the Chevy’s 12,100 lb payload, 3,789 lbs and again, we’ve got nice trim on the door Panel, the style changes a little bit on the High Country, but not too much. Compared to this LTZ we’ve got automatic for the front two windows, the mirrors. You can extend them out. You can power fold them in it’s quite a bit of adjustment with those mirrors and then memory seats.
Nice trim all down the center of the seat. Now the Chevy does have four-wheel drive auto as well as low and high. It also has a heads-up display. You got little controls for it right there and you got your light controls there too got full digital gauge cluster here in the center we also have the actual heads-up display up above steering wheel is pretty simplistic with the controls you got. Controls for center you’ve got your controls for the cruise control as well, and then, as for the infotainment system, it’s going to take a second to go through that.
But it’s pretty quick to respond. It’S a horizontal unit and we have a 360 camera with this. Pretty good resolution all throughout uh, this one has held control, big thing: we got diesel exhaust brake, heated and ventilated seats. We’Ve got dual zone climate as well got a bunch of storage here in the center phone charging pad outlets, USB port, or rather outlet not outlets. In the center, but nice trim here, nice trim on the seats as well.
Like I said you got a double glove box setup more nice trim across the dash camera, rearview mirror, we’ve got a sunroof and then the rear glass does open with a power function. 12,300 lb is gross vehicle weight rating for the Ram and then we’ve got 3,738 lbs of payload capacity. Really cool seats with the Ram you’ve got automatic windows for the front too, and also nice door panel by the way memory seats. There’S tons of adjustment with the mirrors, so with these mirrors you can extend them out. You can power fold them in.You can adjust each mirror individually as well light controls here on the side. You got a pedal adjustment function too. Now, just like the Chevy digital gauge cluster here in the center and then you’ve got all of your controls here, for it kind of a nicer finish on the buttons gear limiter adaptive cruise control. So I got a column shifter again nicer kind of finish on it, and then we do have a 360 camera, not a huge view, though, because of the vertical screen. So that’s one downside uh does have a diesel exhaust brake here and you notice that a lot of stuff’s built into the screen now that’s kind of a big change.
Just a traditional two wheel drive two-speed transfer case no four-wheel drive. Auto you’ve got two phone charging pads, which is pretty cool bunch of USB ports limited here in the center and definitely the best center console design in terms of spacing there’s a passenger screen. So you don’t get a glove box up top, but you still get the bottom one uh camera rearview, mirror power sliding rear window, but no sunroof on this. Finally, we’ve got the Ford 12,400 lb of gross vehicle weight rating 4,139 lb of payload capacity and the door panel. I think it’s in between the other two.
The Ram has the nicest automatic front: two windows: it’s like they’re colluding with each other to not put automatic, rear windows, anyways power, folding mirrors and mirror extension function uh. So you got some adjustability there blind spoting with the mirrors too and memory seats, and then these front seats, like I said, the most comfortable in the platinum, which is pretty cool power. Adjustments there on the side, light controls here with pedal adjustment and then the steering wheel is also power, adjustable guess what digital, just like the other two and also heads-up, display lots of fancy stuff there um, but you got stuff like adaptive cruise control. You can see controls for the center got a column shifter just like the other two and then we also have a 360 camera system. I think that the Chevys is probably the easiest to use well Ram’s, just as easy, but Ram screen view is smaller um but yeah easy to use infotainment system horizontally posed, just like God intended just making a joke.
There uh glove box notice. We got a top lid and then down below you’ve got your analog controls for the radio. You’Ve got your dual zone, climate, heated and ventilated seats. So all of them have those luxury features and then traditional two wheel drive two-speed transfer case. Just like the Ram, this one actually has a selectable rear, lock, which is pretty cool phone charging pad, and then you’ve got quite a bit of space here, not as much as the Ram uh in terms of overall usable space, but it’s still pretty darn good.No camera rearview mirror and we do have a power setting window and then we do have a bunch of auxiliary switches and then also just like the Ram no sunroof in this. Oh, I will make you spit out your coffee this morning, so the Chevy is $ 85,000. That’S the most affordable. The Ram is $ 102,000 and the Ford’s about $ 98,000. Let’S see which one performs the best.
Well, we’ll start off in the Chevy. We’Ll do the Ford second and then we’ll do the Ram third cuz, the Ram’s, the new guy on the block. So first things first, i understand this comparison is not perfect. It would have been better if I had a High Country Silverado, but yeah good luck. Finding one they do have a DY High Country so got that, but yeah still not going to be the best for a comparison to have one dual and two single rear wheel.
Now I’ve driven the Ford and the Chevy quite extensively over the years. Now, with these updates – and I like them both quite a bit uh, the Chevy has a pretty quiet engine for a diesel. It still has some nice sounds, but it’s not too intrusive and the torque it’s great. It’S smooth in the low end too, and you can just you – can really feel the horsepower of this thing, and that is the benefit of a V8 diesel. Is it’s going to have a lot of power?
It’S just going to feel like it’s got more to pull from which I really appreciate, and it means that it kind of feels like a sports car to an extent. I mean look at this. This is just ridiculous. If you ask me it’s just – And this is the least powerful out of the bunch – it’s so crazy – how powerful HD trucks are. Uh suspension is really comfortable. The independent front suspension makes the turn-in a little bit sharper and, just in general, it’s a comfortable ride for an HD truck like I’d, be more than happy to commute with this on the daily. Without it being loaded up loaded up, obviously, would make it even better. Cuz you’ve got some weight on those springs, but Chevy has done a pretty darn good job of making this truck comfortable, despite the fact that it is a big diesel beast. So, let’s pop into the Ford time to set off in the fur had to say it that way, i had to say it that way, not that much louder than the Chevy. Actually, no, it’s quieter than the Chevy, it’s quieter than the Chevy.
It’S pretty close, though it’s kind of Yeah, potato potato, it’s pretty close in terms of sound. I mean they sound different right. They have distinct sounds, but in terms of noise, now, like I said, seats are definitely more comfortable, and this is the thing that I don’t understand why uh General Motors put such hard seats in their trucks. It’S not like a deal breaker, but it’s just kind of strange yeah, just like the Silverado you’ve got that V8 horsepower. That is quite impressive, really motivates the truck and just like the Silverado, it’s actually pretty comfortable, despite the fact that this has solid axles, front and rear, it is comfortable over the bumps.
It’S not bad at all, and okay yeah, you def. I wasn’t even as deep in the throttle as I was with the Silverado. You can definitely feel the extra torque i mean you’re, talking 975 versus 1,200 lb feet. That is a substantial difference. The horsepower is not as big of a difference.
30 horsepower, but still it’s a difference. I really like how the Fords drive it’s so comfortable. It’S crazy that Ford’s been able to make a solid axle, leafsprung truck drive and it’s not leaf springs in the front anymore, but still just it drives so well for what it is still an HD truck still going to be. You know HD trucky over the bumps, but it’s quite impressive. So let’s pop into the Ram and see if the new kid on the block can even compete ram so see how the new kid handles.
Now I will say, although these seats aren’t quite as comfortable as the Fords they’re comfortable enough, and this interior definitely feels the most premium out of the bunch, and I have reviewed again Silverado High Country. I say this still feels more premium than that. It’D be interesting to compare this interior to a Denali Ultimate. Those are kind of hard to come by right now, but try to get the I I really do want to do some GMC versus Ram comparisons. I just got to get the trucks at the same place at the same time, so I will say suspension seems to be a little bit bumpier than the other two.
It’S not uncomfortable, but you get a little bit little bit more of a truck like ride love the torque. It doesn’t feel quite as like sports car-l, like as the other two. It feels more like a true diesel where it is just all low-end torque. So it’s just a little bit different on that end. Oh my gosh talk about torque man, this thing’s fast for a Cumins, the 8-speed.
I think definitely it’s definitely quicker to shift that helps out substantially. You know hm. This is a tough one. I think I mean the Chevy’s Okay here: here’s here’s! How it shakes out.
The Chevy is the best value monetarily, because it’s got the most features for the least amount of money. The Ram and the Ford are pretty similar in terms of feature to price driveability, though I just you know, I’m a Cumins fan and I think the reason being is I like that lowend torque and then the smooth delivery from the inline 6. It’S just it’s just a really good setup and I love the the sound like this sounds like a real diesel. The other two sound like I don’t know not bad though so let me know which one you’d pick. I think the rankings after driving all three of these back to back, is probably Ram i’d, say Ram I’d, say they probably kind of went won.
This comparison, the one thing that I will knock Ram for get rid of the stupid passenger screen like make it as option on every single pack on every single package. Some people that buy a limited, don’t want that crap and then just value to feature right. The Ram’s definitely not the best value, but it is a really nice truck inside and out, and this new 8-speed does make a big difference. So I think I think Ram kind of won, but they also have. It also has some downsides compared to the other two [ Music ]
