This article is brought to you by Grandeur warranty your number one online source for factory-backed, extended warranties in thecountry. Apparently it’s snowing so much. That Veil pass is now closed, oh for God’s sakes, this is, crazy, hean right here I have the newly redesigned 2025 Ram heavy duty with a new comment and also an 8-speed itut automatic ZF transmission. And what do you have here? The new 2025 Silverado 2500 HD Trail Boss with the durx, so the question I’m thinking about Andre is which of these two gets better fuel economy?
Well, that’s also what I’m thinking about, because we’re here in Moab and we have to go back to Denver – and this is a perfect opportunity to see how efficient well. This is supposed to be like 25 % more efficient than your comments. Can it beat the Duramax yeah? How can it be more efficient with a fake hood scoop yeah, and you see that yeah, that’s real! That’S for the water to come out and that’s for the air to come out.
How cool is that all right, all right, all right, 470, horsepower, 975 LBT of torque and, of course, a Duramax with an Allison branded, get this 10-speed, not 8-speed transmission. Now this is a tried and true diesel Andre. It will do better on the highway. I am confident of it. What do you got under the hood?
Well, Roman big truck Folk will really appreciate this, because this is an like. I said, an inline 6 6.7 L cumin. They redesigned a lot of this engine, so the air intake system it now has glow, plugs um, it’s easier to service some of these components. They improve the horsepower. It doesn’t have as much horsepower as your Duramax 430 horses, but massive torque, 1,75 lb ft, which is 100 more than yours, and it has an 8-speed DF transmission. Arguably one of the best transmission manufacturers in the world and also a 342 to1 rear axle ratio. What’S my R axle ratio Andre the same? Oh, that should be Apples to Apples comparison, because this is the rebel and this is the Trail Boss and they’re both off-road trucks. So, unlike most tfl videos, we actually have Apples to Apples today and they both have alterate tires too.
Let’S go uh, fill them up and start the road trip all right, dude D, so you were boasting about your fuel tank being larger 36 gallon yeah and I was filled it with 36 gallons of uh gasoline instead of diesel. You just put gas in the on camera. That would have been bad. I think some drops of gas got in there. That’S all right, it’ll burn off you, you’ll have more horsepower, but tell me Andre: where did you get the Ram from oh yeah?
So this was yesterday. Let me show you what happened, because this was super cool yep. I just landed at the Las Vegas Airport. The main strip is behind me and I just picked up this. The brand new 2025 Ram Rebel, heavy duty, cumin diesel 8-speed truck and I got to go, go and meet Roman in Moab Utah, which is a considerable distance away, maybe 7 to 8 hours.
Why is it going to take me that long? Well, I’m doing something else on this part of my journey, I’m carrying a very cool payload. This is dog food, so the ram Commons heavy duty event has been going on all week and this is basically the last day of it and I’m able to get the truck from the event. But they were using dog food as payload. But it’s not to go to waste um RAM and the company is donating. This dog food to a shelter each bag is about 15 lb. I’Ve got Ram boxes full of it both Ram boxes, so I’m carrying almost what 1,000 lbs of dog fot here. So this is also kind of a a Laden Road Trip. Um heavy trucks are meant to carry payloads and I’m super happy that we’re able also to help donate some food for dogs in need and also have a very comfortable Journey, because this Rebel is luxurious all right, so I just went through the beautiful and historic canab Utah and just on the outskirts.
Here is the best friends Sanctuary. This is the uh dog shelter where I am delivering the food, so I’m almost there. I can’t wait to see some of the puppies all right: let’s keep moving . Once again, I want to thank bark, the company for making this incredible Food donation to the best friends Sanctuary. I had no idea how big this place was and uh an amazing operation, the largest domestic animal sanctuary in the country holy moly, all right, one job done now onwards back to Colorado.
So as always guys, you know we do the uh double click method. So we fill it up and then once it’s full, we wait 30 seconds and then let it click. And then we know it’s completely full and for those of you who are wondering does that right, the uh evaporative charcoal container we’ve been doing it for 5 years. More like 10 years and so far so far no charcoal containers have been damaged. As far does it damage the fuel pump itself, probably not well, that’s why we wait and we’re not we’re not freaky about it here.
Go get your truck, bring it over here. So word to the wise: when uh you’re filling up a diesel make sure you’re filling it up with diesel and not with gasoline I’m laughing but uh that would have been really bad, really bad drink, drink diesel, please drink more diesel. Andre just got a 100 bucks. Dude yeah, it’s still. It’S still going all right about 110 bucks, hey Roman, I’m a king Su member, so I have a disc count: 40 cents a gallon.Well I have one too: you got one too yeah. I got one too all right! I’M topping off the ram all right time to head back to Boulder and do our MPG loop, it’s about uh, close to 400 miles to get all the way to Boulder and what I’m going to do is you can see I’m getting that great fuel economy right Now I’m getting 16.6, so I’m going to zero that out and we’ll see what the truck says that we’re getting and then we’ll of course compare it to what the pump says as we get some miles under our belt. I am always so sad to leave Moab.
This is one of my favorite places on Earth, uh and uh. I would say, if you’re thinking about coming here, don’t it’s horrible, it’s nasty, it’s! Oh! It’S dangerous, H, hurricanes and tornadoes and landslides keep away. There’S already too many of you.
Here these trucks are basically built to tow and haul, so it would make sense now telly. What does your trip say right now that we’re on the highway and we’re 50 35 miles outside of Moab? What are you getting? 13 MPG? Oh I’m at 13.
, I’m at 13.8. What is happening, I don’t know, must be that solid axle of yours. How did you go from 13? We get some go ahead.Did we get some bad diesel or something? Well? I certainly didn’t help it by putting gas in it. Almost I don’t have cooled seeds, I don’t have a sunroof, and yet I don’t have a starting price of 99,000 Andre. How comfy is that thing for a long distance?
I got to say these Chevy seats are not very comfy um, I think uh. My Ram seats are a little bit better than yours, cuz. I drove about uh 9 hours yesterday and I was relatively okay after that yeah I was kind of hopping from cheek to cheek. If you know what I mean, I don’t want to picture of that. No, please all right I’ll get back to you a little bit later, dude.
Okay, thanks! You guys love car and trucks. Well, I’ve got three great podcasts that you will enjoy listening to, because we are deep into cars and trucks and talking about trucks. Right here is my man, Andre and case working on the next episode of talking trucks, where they delve deep into everything that is truckish, including breaking truck news. Talking about the different models that are coming up and, of course, tearing down the world of trucks, as only Andre and case, know how to do.
But if trucks are not your thing and cars are sort of your thing check out, carish our podcast, that is sort of car adjacent with Jen and Mary and Mary being the is part of carish and finally Tommy and myself talk all about cars at tfl’s. Car chat, where we look into the newest models, talk about what’s happening in the world of cars, break down the latest news. All three of these podcasts are available. Wherever you get your podcast, so check them out. I think you’ll really enjoy them, hey Robin, Hey, so uh.What What’s your say? We’Ve gone 100 miles. Take look 15,
9 yeah: that’s what mine says after 100 miles wait. What are we identical? This is supposed to be better.
Well, I mean that’s what the trucks say and we found that often the pump says something else. So we’ll have to go another. What 250 miles yeah to figure it out, but look it’s back in Colorado. The Snows are falling. It’S winter time, it’s winter in Colorado, again, yeah!
Okay, all right! Shall we keep going all right. Follow me. So we’ve hit a little uh trouble on our way back to Boulder. As you can see, uh the trucks are a little frosted and that’s because it’s snowing, apparently it’s snowing so much.
That Veil pass is now closed, which means we’re going to have to basically go around all all the way to look at the front of your truck by the way, all the way to Leadville and go around Veil pass. I think it looks better, looks really cool yeah. I think it looks better. Don’T you painted white yeah? So what’s your? What’S your truck telling you what’s your fuel economy now it’s like 18.3 ooh, mine’s 17.9. So maybe Comm has an advantage yeah. So, are you ready to go around Veil pass to the tallest city in the world?
Yeah we got to go to Leadville, not the world, the country, the country, I’m sure, there’s I’m sure somewhere in the Himalayas. There’S a tall, Nepal, Nepal, your your front, looks pretty cool too yeah, but yours is all black. It looks so much better. This is something. Do you see the shutters closed?
Oh, I see yeah yeah, look at that by the way, we’re speaking with no microphones, but that’s okay. We can hear us um and the shutters are closed on your truck too so um they’re trying to maintain heat yeah yeah. I think yours looks better that little frosted look. Uh is something that maybe uh the ram designers may want to consider. Huh.
Yes, cuz. I looked behind me, I’m like that’s, not Andre. Who is that all right, so uh we’ll probably go all the way up to Leadville, which is going to add maybe an hour or so? But it’s better than sitting at McDonald’s in Veil and it’s going to be fun right. Driving it’s fun!Driving in the snow is fun until it isn’t all right. Let’S keep going, we’re still on our alternate route, still climbing to about what 10,500 ft above sea level and we’re still moving at a pretty good Pace about 45 50 m. An hour it’s gorgeous out here, though, if you have to go around Veil pass then going through murn and then Leadville is not a bad option. There’S something about Veil pass where it just gets soaked in snow, whereas this road is completely clear. Isn’T that wild that Veil pass is probably you know deep in a few feet of snow, and yet here we are, with it barely snowing and like spots of Blue Sky, showing through the problem with going around to Leadville, and this is Camp hail by the way.
Over here, that’s where the 14 14th – I think it’s 14th Mountain division train before they went to war in Europe. Basically, it was a division of the uh US military that learned how to fight on skis, and one of the things that they brought back to Colorado was the way that the Europeans had created their ski areas, uh and so that group of guys originally fighting in Europe came back and started the Veil partnership. That’S why Veil is so German and then created, basically the Colorado ski industry and then eventually the because of purchasing the national ski industry and off to our left here. I’Ll show you there, you have it there’s campel in the winter. This is a great snowmobiling area and there is Huts in here as well, so you can go from the top of veil pass to over to down here uh.
On sum mobiles, I believe I’ve never done that, but I think that’s possible and, as you can see, there’s just a lot of people that are going around Veil pass and I think it’s better than sitting at the local McDonald’s waiting for it to open all righty. We’Ve gone uh, 300 mil and I’m averaging 17.7 and, as you can tell, we’ve hit a beautiful part of snowy Colorado and I just checked and bail pass is still closed. So uh. This was the right decision to go around bail pass and it was also beautiful.
Uh and I think what we’re going to do now is get back on I70 and then pull off its Silverthorn and do um the fill up and find out exactly who and which truck gets better fuel economy. Now I just had a chat with Andre and he said that uh we didn’t do a lot of climbing, which is right. So this is probably not the average uh, but these truck SC they can onlya do a little bit better. But really this is a comparison between the Silverado and the RAM and uh we’ll see which of these two heavy duty. Trucks is uh.The fuel Miser, the diesel Miser, King and finally, the snow is starting to come and uh yeah it’s a winter wonderland. Well, we’re heading to the gas station, but man, the winter storm, has really hit hard up here in what we call the country, as you can tell it’s full-on winter, like I said March, is our snowiest month and um. This is proving to be so, and the great news is that uh ra pass is still closed, so we didn’t do that DeTour for nothing. This truck cost $ 99,000. That is a serious amount of money and for that amount of money you need serious piece of mind and that’s why I would recommend you check out Granger warranty by clicking on the link below, because not only do they give you factory certified technicians, but you can Also get it worked on anywhere in the country and guess what Andre?
What’S that I bought a Granger warranty for our new Corvette, because that was also a very expensive vehicle, and I wanted to be sure that if something goes wrong, it is backed by the factory and by technicians that know what they’re doing. We went. 318 miles and I what’s your computer saying I have to look again. What’S your saying: 17.9, let’s see mine, say 18
2, so yours is better than mine, yeah better than yours all right.
My comment. Theory is not working out right now, all right, let’s fill up, let’s see what the uh, let’s see what the pump says, not just what the computer says. Okay, this time I’m putting diesel in Andre diesel, yeah Diesel’s, good. Okay, here we go. So how do we go from a comfortable Moab?
I don’t know why we came here. Why we go, we should have stayed in what are we doing in Colorado and close Veil pass? You know, and all this stuff yeah? Well, luckily, we got arounded yeah we did. That was that was that was actually a very scenic route.
Very nice yeah. It was nice, hopefully it won’t CL hour pel, I’m going to do the ike guys it’s the first eye, Gauntlet coming up right now, except you’re, not Towing, except I’m, not Towing. I mean look at this. This is a full-on winter storm and we were in beautiful Moab and now here we are freezing our nuts off just for you guys, all for you. Oh, come on $ 50.
All right, wait! 30 seconds all right! Here we go all right, Andre come on over. I got the number 17525 – oh my God, it’s so cold 38.5 divide by 17525 equals 18.
. All right. There you go, go, get fill up. Your computer was right all right. Let’S see what yours got, I got to go it’s slow again, oh God at least show my beautiful truck.
Oh you mean show ra, Ram’s, beautiful truck yeah show you want you want to show you want to show off a truck that doesn’t belong to us. What a Beauty look? It’S a ram, hey Andre! This looks like the old Ram. Oh, it’s refreshed see refreshed right there.Oh, the lights are little different. It’S got that kind of poral light pattern with the four little lights. Yes, but the body is the same. The cab is the same. The bed is the same.
The interior shape and size is the same. Why didn’t they update it? Cuz it’s expensive. Yes, why did you pick the slowest pump in the world? I did not know they were going to be slow.
Sorry, it’s okay! It’S okay! You didn’t know. No, I didn’t know you had no idea and how can you pay inside when inside is completely closed? Yeah?
Well, I came here. Cuz there’s a roof. I was thinking it would protect us from the snow and it’s very lit up. So so people can see what that was my thinking, not that the pumps were slow. Look I switched to my winter jacket, my TFO winter jacket.
You just brought your tfl hoodie dude. It’S okay, it’s uh! You were expecting mo. I Bo. I was in Vegas a day ago, oh you’re, already over oh you’re, already over from my whole theory about the transmission the comments hold on.
I don’t know if it’s rolling – oh it’s rolling, it says only 10 % battery left, oh no, it’s cold! The camera is dying, shut it down. Let me to use my my camera. Oh just do it you’re good, it’s 30 seconds, we’re still rolling yeah we’re still rolling yeah all right. Do the math, my man read them and weep 18.
That was yours: 18.7. Okay! Okay, now you do yours! What the heck is going on here, 38.
divide by 18, 18
4 22 equals equals 17.3, one MPG less Andre, almost one less than the durx. So I’m going to say guys by the way, winner winner chicken dinner for the Duramax durx one and comments it did have 2,000 miles. So it’s not completely brand new. But it’s not completely broken in and that one just crossed 5,000 miles all right there, you have it guys there you have it and finally, the snow’s kind of slowing down.
Well, that was a bit an epic yeah turned out to be with dogs and wolves. We have wolves here yes and bears oh they’re hibernating. All right guys. Well, thanks for watching, Remember, go to alf.com for more newsviews and Frozen MPG reviews.
We’Ll see you next time, ciao bye,
